There are many reasons why we cannot lose weight or keep it off. This post is not about the obvious, like lack of exercise or proper nutrition. I leave that for the experts in those fields. However I can tell you that unconscious blocks can keep weight on and coming back when you've lost it.
Also, a part of you make be protecting yourself in some way. No way, you say! Yet, I have seen it many times with clients.
When you think about losing weight, what stressful thoughts do you have? Where do you feel this in your body? One theme that has come up has been the sense of feeling deprived.
Stress is a big reason for putting weight on and keeping it on. So today, we are using tapping to release the stress of feeling deprived in addition to other other stressors around weight loss.
How does tapping help you lose weight?
Every time you feel a negative emotion or are triggered by an old or unconscious memory, your amygdala signals your body to go into fight or flight mode. Adrenaline and cortisol are released, your blood pressure, blood sugar levels and heart rate increase so you can meet the challenges of the perceived threat. All of your body’s energy is channeled to self defense (even though you are really not in danger,) so that less essential functions like digestion are either slowed or shut down.
If your body is not digesting food, it has a negative impact on your metabolism which prevents the body from absorbing the nutrients that it needs. Without this essential nourishment, your body can trigger false hunger signals not because it is hungry but because it cannot properly digest the food that is available.
The overproduction of cortisol (known as the stress hormone) has been directly linked to abdominal obesity.
Tapping calms your nervous system and halts the fight or flight response which lowers cortisol levels. With tapping you can change how your brain reacts to stress and triggers.
